Bay Area Transfer Station and Recycling Report 2015-2016
It has been another busy year at the Bay Area Transfer Station and Recycling.
With the continuous falling prices of recyclables we have been trying hard to stay above water. However, we did manage to ship approximately 480 to 500 tons of recyclables to various mills in Maine and Canada. This also includes scrap metal that is recycled by Port Road Recycling (Dave Rasco) in Machiasport.
Approximately 2,400 tons of MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) was shipped to P.E.R.C. in Orrington, where it is incinerated to generate power. We also shipped 80 to 100 tons of demolition debris to Juniper Ridge in Old Town.
We are trying to keep the facility as neat and clean as possible to stay within D.E.P. and OSHA guildelines. There is always room for improvement.
I would like to thank the Public Works Dept for all their help during the year. I would also like to thank Sam Floyd and Bill Cronin for their hard work at the Recycling Center.
